WORLD WETLANDS DAY CELEBRATION & BIODIVERSITY CLUB INAUGURATION 

The World Wetlands Day is celebrated every year on 2nd February to commemorate the signing of the international treaty, RAMSAR CONVENTION on Wetlands in 1972 for the conservation of wetlands at global level. The theme of 2021 was ‘Wetland and Water’. The students and teachers turned budding environmentalists celebrated World Wetlands Day at Government College of Teacher Education, Thycaud on 2nd February 2021. The Programme Coordinator was Dr. A V Sujith and The Coordinator of Biodiversity Club was Sreenath Sir. Valuable suggestions were made at conserving wetlands at global level. Department of Geography and Biodiversity Club had organised paper presentation session, digital poster making competition and a quiz competition to celebrate world wetlands day. The programme was started with a welcome speech by Rahul Prasad, 1st year M.Ed. student. Dr. A V Sujith, Vice Principal and Associate Professor of Geography Department gave the presidential address. The highlight of the day was the inauguration of Biodiversity Club and talk on Wetlands by Dr. V Subash Chandra Bose, Former Director Water Resource Department and Scientist. The first year B.Ed. Geography students organised a paper presentation covering the topics like Introduction, Significance, Distribution & Conservation strategies of wetlands. The winner of the Digital Poster Making Competition was Department of Commerce. Then a Quiz was organised by Biodiversity Club. Parvathy U of department of Natural Science was the winner of the quiz.
